Nigerian President Tinubu Clarifies His Motives for Running for Office

In a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu reiterated that he did not contest for the presidency to enrich himself. Instead, he emphasized that he came to “work” after Nigerians gave him their votes.

Tinubu’s comments came during a meeting with 16 former presiding officers, including former Senate Presidents, former Speakers of the House of Representatives, former Deputy Senate Presidents, and former Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives. The meeting was led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani.

The President assured that his administration is committed to delivering tangible results and making a positive difference in various sectors, including education and long-term economic stability. He stated, “I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me.”

Tinubu’s remarks aimed to clarify any misconceptions about his motivations for running for office. His emphasis on his commitment to working for the people of Nigeria underscores his administration’s focus on delivering tangible results and making a positive impact on the country.

The meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly is seen as an opportunity for the President to engage with key stakeholders and build relationships with influential figures in Nigerian politics.
