Charly Boy Reveals He Almost Married Tyna Onwudiwe, Late Singer and Good Friend
Nigerian music legend Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has opened up about his close relationship with late singer Tyna Onwudiwe. In a shocking revelation, Charly Boy disclosed that he almost tied the knot with the singer, who passed away on June 29, 2001, at the age of 47.
According to Charly Boy, he and Tyna Onwudiwe sat down to discuss marriage, but ultimately decided against it. "I said, oh, no, I don’t see myself marrying two wives," he recalled. The singer also humorously added that if they had gotten married, "we will kill ourselves. Let’s be good friends. And we became the best of all friends."
Charly Boy praised Tyna Onwudiwe’s kind and generous spirit, saying she would "give her last penny to a stranger. That was who she always was." He also revealed that he was often teased by others who referred to Tyna as his wife, which he found amusing. "They said your wife has cancer. I wanted somebody, a female to help me with that. Because if I was doing it on my own, people will say, of course, is she not your girlfriend? Is she not your wife?" he said.
The singer also shared that he was often mistaken for the father of some of Tyna’s children, adding that he solicited funds for her during her battle with cancer. Unfortunately, the disease took her life just 17 days after her 47th birthday.
Tyna Onwudiwe’s legacy continues to be celebrated, and Charly Boy’s tribute to their friendship and potential marriage serves as a heartwarming reminder of the strong bonds that can form between people from different walks of life.
