Nigeria’s Vice President Embarks on Diplomatic Mission to the United Nations General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The high-profile delegation began its journey on Sunday and touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday.

Upon arrival, the Vice President was welcomed by a contingent of government officials, diplomats, and UN representatives. The notable reception party included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, and Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa. Nigerian diplomats and UN officials also joined the gathering, underscoring the significant diplomatic mission ahead.

The Vice President’s trip marks a crucial moment in Nigeria’s international relations, with Shettima set to deliver the country’s national statement and participate in several high-level meetings. He was directed to lead Nigeria’s delegation by President Bola Tinubu, in a move that underscores the nation’s commitment to playing an active role in shaping global policies.

As Vice President Shettima commences his diplomatic mission at the UNGA, he will be expected to engage with world leaders and experts on a range of pressing global issues, including climate change, economic cooperation, and international security.
