Kwara State Governor Pledges Transparency as Local Government Chairmen Take Office

Monday marked a significant moment for Kwara State, Nigeria, as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq swore in the newly elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons of the state’s 16 local government areas. The governor, echoing his commitment to transparency, urged the new leaders to “be prudent with power and work with the people” in the best interests of all.

The emergence of the new council chiefs followed local government elections held by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC) on Saturday. Speaking shortly after the oath-taking ceremony at Government House in Ilorin, the governor congratulated the new council heads, their families, party leaders, community stakeholders, and everyone involved in their ascension.

The governor provided guidance for the newly inaugurated leaders, cautioning them to “set realistic goals for yourself,” remain “conscious of your legacies,” and ensure that their actions benefit “everyone and yourself.” He encouraged them to be mindful of the country’s transitional phase, where economic reforms may bring temporary hardships. As such, he advised against indulging in self-interested activities while citizens strive to meet basic needs.

Abdulrazaq also emphasized the significance of collaboration between local governments, urging them to foster cooperation and explore joint achievements. He wished the leaders success in their roles and reminded them to earn the trust of the people through their actions.

Party chairman Sunday Fagbemi praised the people of the state for their support, commending Governor Abdulrazaq for his “statesmanship and commitment to the public good.” The party chairman also revealed their agenda to develop the state and propel it towards better times.

The chairman of the Ilorin South Local Government council, Majeed Podo, spoke on behalf of his colleagues, reaffirming their commitment to serve the people in their respective jurisdictions.
