Rift between Wike and Fubara: Nobody Has a Monopoly on Causing Violence, Says FCT Minister

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that nobody has a monopoly on causing violence, amidst the political rift between himself and the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike made this statement on Saturday at the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress, where he was honored for his achievements. He used the occasion to clear the air about public perception that Fubara was speaking on behalf of the entire Ijaw people, as both leaders engage in a supremacy battle.

“I have told people that nobody has a monopoly on causing violence,” Wike said. “The mere fact that we choose to play according to the rule of law, to be calm, and not to turn ourselves into where investors would run away, and that is what we will continue to do.”

Wike also addressed the perception that Fubara was speaking on behalf of the Ijaw people, saying that it was not correct. He pointed out that Fubara was only trying to gain attention, adding that the Ijaw people in the House of Assembly were positioned in their respective parties.

Wike further emphasized that those criticizing him were envious of his growth and could not do what he was doing today. He noted that they had been defeated politically severally and would continue to be defeated if given another opportunity.

“I have made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State,” Wike said. “God used us. All of us here had sleepless nights. So who loves Ijaw more? Is it people who come out on television who can not even make their Ijaw brother governor? If they were that powerful, since the old Rivers State, has Ijaw ever become governor? Where are they?”

Wike’s statement comes amid rising tensions between him and Fubara, with both leaders engaged in a verbal sparring match. The feud has sparked concerns about the impact on the state and its people.

The statement from Wike serves as a reminder that in politics, nobody has a monopoly on causing violence, and that it is crucial to play by the rules and avoid actions that could harm innocent people.
