PDP Kicks Off Campaign for Benue Local Govt Elections

As Benue State gets set for the October 5 local government election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally kicked off its campaign efforts. The flag-off ceremony, which took place in Makurdi on Wednesday, saw Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates receive their flags.

At the ceremony, the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, AVM Napoleon Bali, was represented by the Secretary, Mr. Osita Ogene, who charged the candidates to go out and secure victory for the party. Speaking to the crowd, Mr. Ogene emphasized the importance of the upcoming polls and encouraged the candidates to work hard towards a triumph.

In his own speech, former Benue State Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, expressed optimism that the PDP will emerge victorious in the election. The former Governor was also forthright, stating that if the party is unfairly denied victory, they will not hesitate to seek redress in the courts.

Also addressing the crowd was Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader. Moro implored PDP members to turn out in large numbers on Saturday to cast their ballots, reminding them that these will be election, not selection, as promised by the Benue State Independent Election Commission (BSIEC).

Engr. Dondo Ahire, Mike Uba, and Alex Ogaba, representing the three senatorial districts in the state, were in complete agreement in their separate messages of goodwill, urging the need for party unity in order to guarantee the PDP’s win.

The forthcoming election comes as the stage is set for what is expected to be a tense and high-stakes political battle.
