Moghalu Joins Labour Party, Seeks Anambra Governorship

George Moghalu, former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of National Inland Waterways Authority, has announced his candidacy for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State under the Labour Party. The politician aims to address the state’s current challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, and poor infrastructure, which he believes are a result of the failed leadership of incumbent Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Moghalu stated that he is contesting the election to provide a better future for the people of Anambra State, emphasizing that Soludo has not lived up to expectations during his tenure. He believes that the Labour Party is the best platform to achieve his goals, having consulted with his family, friends, and supporters before making the decision to join the party.

Moghalu acknowledged the zoning arrangement in the state, which favors Anambra South, but promised to serve only one term if elected, allowing Anambra Central to take over before the end of his tenure. He urged the people of Anambra State to vote him out, citing the collapse of security and lack of infrastructure development under Soludo’s administration.

Moghalu’s decision to run for governor comes amid speculation that he would contest the senatorial election to fill the vacancy in Anambra South Senatorial District following the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. However, he insisted that he has no ambition to run for the Senate and will focus on the governorship election.

As the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State approaches, Moghalu’s candidacy has sparked excitement among Labour Party supporters and anxiety among opponents. The election is expected to be fiercely contested, with various parties and candidates vying for the top spot. Moghalu’s message of change and his promise to address the state’s challenges may resonate with voters seeking a new direction for Anambra State.
