Google Chat Updates: Video Messages & Voice Transcriptions for Improved Communication

Google Brings Enhanced Communication to its Workspace Platform with Video and Voice Message Updates

In a move to improve user communication, Google has introduced new features to its messaging platform Google Chat, accessible to all users via Gmail. The updates include the ability to send video messages and automated voice message transcriptions.

Video Messages are now a part of Google Chat, allowing users to share updates about new features or account changes, share company-wide updates, or even use it as a proxy for a live meeting that was missed by team members. These messages can be sent and received across direct messages (DMs), group DMs, and spaces, and can be interacted with through quoting, replying, or reacting. However, it is essential to note that the video messaging feature is only available on the web, with limitations on ChromeOS, Linux, and Firefox. Mobile support is yet to be available.

On the other hand, voice message transcriptions are also being rolled out, giving users the option to view automatic transcriptions of their voice messages in Chat on both web and mobile devices. Users can choose to view or hide these transcriptions, with the company ensuring that the transcripts adhere to the device’s language settings and are treated as readable texts for screen readers.

These new features aim to enhance the communication experience between users, saving time and making it more effective. With these updates, Google Chat continues to solidify its position as a comprehensive messaging platform for workspace communication.
