Everton Urged to Look Elsewhere for New Manager
The prospect of Jose Mourinho taking the reins at Everton has sparked concerns among fans, with former player Alan Stubbs warning against the move. The Toffees are set to undergo a significant change in ownership, with The Friedkin Group’s takeover nearing completion.
Dan Friedkin, the owner and CEO of the company, is reportedly interested in appointing Mourinho, who currently manages Turkish club Fernabahce. The Portuguese coach has a storied past, having led the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Porto to numerous titles.
However, Stubbs believes Mourinho’s best days are behind him. In an interview with BestBettingSites, the 61-year-old said: "If Everton were going to appoint the Mourinho of old, the young Mourinho who was so successful and charismatic, then I would say yes bring him into the football club, and without being disrespectful to Sean Dyche, I think most Everton fans would because peak Mourinho was a very special manager."
However, Stubbs emphasized that he does not think Mourinho would be the right fit for the club in his current state. "His last few spells in management haven’t really worked out for him. He still provides that bit of sparkle," he noted.
As Everton’s new ownership looks to shape the future of the club, they may want to consider other options beyond Mourinho. The 61-year-old’s lackluster recent form, combined with Stubbs’ warnings, suggests that the Portuguese coach may not be the best choice to lead the Toffees back to success.
