Ogun State Youths Condemn Councilorship Candidate’s Murder, Demand Justice

Tragedy struck in Ogun State, Nigeria, as Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists on Saturday afternoon. The cold-blooded killing has sent shockwaves across the state, with the Ogun State All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum condemning the act and demanding justice.

According to reports, Adeyinka, a 40-year-old transport union worker, was shot and stoned to death by the assailants at Jide Jones area, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, at around 12:30 pm. The police have confirmed the incident, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Ogun State All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum described the killing as “senseless and horrific” and has urged the security agencies to ensure that Adeyinka’s killers are brought to book. The forum also called for a thorough investigation into the crime and demanded that justice be served.

In a statement, the youth forum expressed its deep sadness and outrage over the murder, saying that the incident has left the community shaken and grieving. Adeyinka, who was also a dedicated member of the party, had worked tirelessly during the election, and his untimely death is a loss to the entire youth community in Ogun State.

The police have confirmed that a concerned citizen reported the incident, stating that a group of cultists, armed with a pump action shotgun and a pistol, arrived in an unregistered Toyota Corolla Sport car and opened fire on Adeyinka. The perpetrators fled the scene, leaving behind their victim, who was pronounced dead.

The Ogun State Police Command has taken steps to restore normalcy to the area and has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Meanwhile, Adeyinka’s family, friends, and colleagues have been condoling with them, praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
