PDP Governors Summon National Chairman Ahead of Crucial Meeting

In a bid to strengthen the party’s unity and prepare for upcoming elections, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have summoned the acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and other key officials to a crucial meeting.

The meeting, scheduled for today, comes ahead of the National Executive Committee session planned for Thursday. According to sources, the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led reconciliation committee will brief the party’s National Working Committee on its findings and potential recommendations during the meeting.

Following a meeting with the PDP National Assembly caucus in Abuja, Oyinlola shed light on the purpose of the gathering. "We scheduled a meeting with members of the National Assembly to share their experiences and understand the factors contributing to our party’s dwindling fortunes," he explained.

Oyinlola, a former Osun State governor, emphasized the need for unity within the party. "We’ve had productive discussions, and I believe we have gathered valuable suggestions to help unite our party and make it formidable," he stated. "For any party to succeed in a political battle, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for."

Furthermore, Oyinlola assured that the party is fine-tuning its strategies ahead of the Ondo State governorship election. Efforts are also being made to reconcile aggrieved party chieftains, ensuring a united front.

As the party navigates its challenges, there are indications that new leadership may be on the horizon. Former Senate President David Mark, ex-governor of Benue State Gabriel Suswam, and PDP Governors’ Forum Director-General Dr. Emmanuel Agbo have emerged as front-runners to replace the embattled acting national chairman.

With the upcoming National Executive Committee session, the party’s future direction will likely become clearer. As the PDP works towards unity and electoral success, the outcome of this week’s meetings will be closely watched by political observers and party supporters alike.
