Nollywood Actor Kanayo O. Kanayo Questions Nigerian Government on South-East Security
In a bold move, veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has publicly questioned the Nigerian government about the heavy military and police presence in the South-Eastern part of the country. His comments come amidst growing concerns about the treatment of travellers in the region.
Kanayo shared his concerns in a video on his Instagram page on Wednesday, comparing his own recent experience traveling from Ibadan to Lagos to the experiences of those in the South-East. He revealed that, despite covering a distance of 80 kilometres, he did not encounter any police or army checkpoints, which piqued his curiosity about the situation in the South-East.
The actor’s comments highlighted the stark contrast between his experience and that of travellers in the South-East. "Why is the South-East so militarised and policed that you can’t go 200 kilometres without a checkpoint?" he asked. He also expressed concern about the humiliation and delays faced by people in the region, particularly those traveling from Enugu to Onitsha. "They humiliate people who ply the same distance… so badly that most of the time, passengers are asked to come down with their hands up."
Kanayo’s questions went beyond just the issue of security and touched on the very heart of the matter: whether the South-East is still part of Nigeria. "Is the South-East still part of Nigeria?" he asked. "Let us understand. Have the representatives seen the state of the federal roads?"
His comments have sparked a conversation about the need for greater representation and understanding of the challenges faced by the people of the South-East. As the actor’s words continue to resonate, one thing is clear: the situation in the South-East requires urgent attention and action.
