In a solemn gathering, prominent Nigerians bid farewell to the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, as he was laid to rest in his hometown, Atta, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State. The event attracted leaders and dignitaries from across the nation, who assembled at Umuohi Atta to honor the life and legacy of the influential Igbo leader.
At the funeral service, led by Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Anglican Communion, Iwuanyanwu was remembered as a fearless advocate for the welfare of his people, especially those in the Southeast. Ndukuba praised the late leader’s commitment to speaking truth to power, highlighting his dedication to addressing issues that affect the Igbo people.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, described Iwuanyanwu as a “true patriot” whose contributions to Nigeria’s unity and infrastructure, including airport runway projects, were invaluable. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, in his tribute, celebrated Iwuanyanwu’s legacy, remarking on his commitment to a united and peaceful Nigeria.
Other dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, remembered Iwuanyanwu as a trailblazer and nationalist who selflessly served the Igbo community. The ceremony saw attendance from notable figures such as Peter Obi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, former First Lady Patience Jonathan, and former Chief of Army Staff Azubuike Ihejirika, among others.
