In a significant operation, Nigerian troops have captured a notorious terrorist leader, Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo, along with seven key commanders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the past week, the Defence Headquarters announced.

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, Habu Dogo was apprehended in Rumji Village, located in Sokoto State’s Illela Local Government Area. Known for his cross-border terrorist activities, Habu Dogo had been on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and Niger.

The military also detained seven IPOB/ESN commanders in the southeastern region. Among those apprehended were Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, also known as “Chapet,” captured in Anambra’s Ihiala Local Government Area. Additional arrests included Mrs. Ngozi Chukwuka and Mr. Oyekachi Ohia in Umuahia South, Abia State. Three others—identified as Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, and Onyedikachi Udemba—were detained in Abia’s Umunneochi Local Government Area, while Elijah Mmaduipeya Obumneke was arrested in Orsu, Imo State.

Major General Buba underscored that ongoing counterinsurgency and counterterrorism efforts have significantly weakened the operational strength of terrorist factions across the nation.
