Prince William arrived in South Africa on Tuesday, where he met with the South African president following a walk with conservationists and rangers at Table Mountain National Park. His visit comes as part of his ongoing commitment to environmental causes, highlighted by the upcoming Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday.

The South African presidency described the Prince’s visit as a demonstration of the “strong ties” between the United Kingdom, the Royal Family, and South Africa, noting that it represents another step in deepening these historic relations.

Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, conceived four years ago, aims to recognize and support innovative solutions to tackle climate change and environmental issues. This year’s finalists include the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance, which unites indigenous nations to protect forests, and the Alton Dala Conservation Initiative, credited with saving the Saiga Antelope from extinction. Each winner receives $1.3 million to help fund their projects.

This marks the first time the Earthshot Prize ceremony is being held on the African continent, adding significant importance to William’s trip. In addition to the awards event, the Prince will also participate in a wildlife summit and other climate-focused engagements.

This is Prince William’s first visit to Africa since 2018, underscoring his continued dedication to global environmental efforts.
