Biden Pledges Peaceful Transfer of Power as Trump Wins U.S. Presidential Election

President Joe Biden has confirmed that the United States will see a peaceful transfer of power in January, following Vice President Kamala Harris’s electoral defeat to Republican candidate Donald Trump. Speaking from the White House on Thursday, Biden emphasized the importance of respecting the democratic process, saying, “We accept the choice the country made. You can’t love your country only when you win.”

Biden assured the public that he had already spoken with Trump to promise full cooperation from his administration, vowing to ensure “a peaceful and orderly transition.” He added, “On January 20, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power here in America.” Addressing his team, he encouraged them to embrace the remaining days of the current term, remarking, “Together we’ve changed America for the better. Now we have 74 days to finish the term, our term. Let’s make every day count.”

Reflecting on the electoral process, Biden praised the integrity of the U.S. system, indirectly addressing past Republican concerns about election integrity. He highlighted the fair and transparent nature of the system and urged the newly victorious Republicans to work toward unity. “Bring down the temperature and see each other not as adversaries but as fellow Americans,” he said.

Biden also commended Harris for her campaign, describing her as a candidate of “great character.” Noting he called her before her concession speech, he added that her efforts contributed significantly to his administration. Harris, who had initially withdrawn from the 2020 presidential primaries before joining Biden’s ticket, ran this year with Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, garnering nearly 68 million votes to Trump’s 72.5 million.

This election marks a significant shift in American politics as the Biden administration prepares to hand over power, while both sides hope to foster cooperation and healing across the nation.
