Former Everton striker Landon Donovan has hit out at Lionel Messi for walking straight down the tunnel instead of acknowledging the Inter Miami fans following their recent 3-2 defeat to Atlanta United.

The incident occurred during Inter Miami’s MLS Cup Eastern Conference Playoffs tie with Atlanta at the Chase Stadium last weekend.

Messi was visibly frustrated following their defeat as he failed to congratulate the opponents after the game.

The Argentina captain didn’t also thank the Inter Miami supporters for their support as he stormed down the tunnel in anger.

Donovan, who was not pleased with Messi’s behaviour, said on the Unfiltered Soccer podcast: “I don’t like that. Just shake their hands and say congratulations. Messi walked right off the field.

“Maybe in the locker room, they came out and said congrats or whatever, and by the way, your fans are out there too, at least congratulate them on a great season and thank them for all the support they have had.”
