Many hospitalized in Abia town after free medical outreach

There is tension in Abriba, a major town in Ohafia LGA of Abia State as some indigenes of the community developed serious health crises after consuming drugs given to them during a free medical outreach.

The medical outreach which was held at Erinma Hall in Abriba on Saturday, was reportedly organized by a group to provide healthcare services for the people.

However, many of those who attended the free medical outreach started experiencing one form of medical crisis or the other, leading to apprehension among the natives.

The affected individuals have been admitted to a hospital in Abriba for emergency treatment even as the State government has another bigger hospitals Ebube Ena Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

The incident has raised alarm among residents, prompting an intervention by the Executive Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Kalu, who has provided critical support to ensure proper medical care and close monitoring of the victims.

Details surrounding the distribution of the free drugs remain unclear but the Abia State government has stepped in to investigate the matter.

When contacted by Media Talk Africa on Sunday, Abia State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche confirmed the development, saying his ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that those in hospital are safe.

” We are on top of the situation. We are still handling the situation. That is what is on my desk now.

“We are working on it to ensure that those people are safe”, the health Commissioner responded.
