The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, continued his campaign on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ahead of next week’s presidential election. The rally at Yakubu Gowon Stadium was attended by APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and several party heavyweights, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, former Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, South‑South National Vice Chairman Chief Victor Giadom, and Rivers State governorship candidate Tonye Cole.
Former Rivers State Governor and immediate‑past Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi was notably absent, though some of his loyalists, such as the state APC Chairman Emeka Beke, were present. Amaechi had remained largely silent after losing to Tinubu in the APC presidential primary last year.
During the rally, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu urged Nigerians to reject the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing it of failing to honor its power‑rotation agreement. “The PDP does not know the essence of promise. When you make a promise, you keep it. On our part, we are honourable people. We have a full‑fledged southerner as our candidate. What the PDP failed to give the South, the APC has given the South. So, as southerners, please, the people of Rivers, play your part by voting APC. Let your vote speak for you,” he said.
Tinubu’s speech focused on security and development in the South‑South region. He pledged to increase security and protect oil installations if elected president, adding, “Let us work hard and build a nation where peace, unity, stability, joy and happiness will reign supreme. We should be working together, not killing one another.” He also paid tribute to former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo, describing him as a bold, courageous, and honest friend and brother.
The rally concluded with the APC flag being handed to Rivers State governorship candidate Tonye Cole. An enthusiastic Cole pledged to run a responsive government that would meet the people’s aspirations and urged supporters to back the APC at all levels.
