The ancient city of Kano woke up on Thursday morning to the sight of presidential campaign posters of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan displayed across major roundabouts in the state.

The posters, bearing the message, “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for President, 2027. He is our Messiah,” surprised many residents, as the individuals or groups behind them and their motives remain unknown, especially since it has been just a year into the Tinubu administration.

While it has become common for Nigerians, particularly in Kano, to reflect on and praise the perceived successes of Jonathan’s administration, the widespread appearance of these posters introduces a new political development.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, have consistently denied any interest in a presidential bid.

However, the sudden appearance of these campaign posters across Kano may alter the narrative.

Only time will reveal whether he has any ambitions or if this is merely speculation.
