NNL: Drama as Abia Comets walk over 1472 FC in Umuahia

Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia has been awarded three points and three goals by match officials after walking over 1472 FC of Lagos, who failed to honour the Matchday Two Conference A encounter of the current Nigeria National League (NNL) game.

The decision to award the victory to the Comets was taken at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Saturday after the away team failed to show up within 30 minutes of the scheduled 3:00 PM kickoff time.

It was also gathered that no advance excuse was provided by 1472 FC for not showing up.

Speaking on the walkover, the Media Officer of Abia Comets, Emmanuel Chinedu, said:

“Following 30 minutes of waiting for the visitors to show up, the match officials awarded victory to Abia Comets.

“With the latest scoreline, Comets have moved to the top of the Conference A standings with six points from two games.”

The Umuahia-based team will face Beyond Limits FC at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

The Comets had, last Sunday, beaten Edel FC 2-1 in Awka.
