CAF Player of the Year: He told me he’ll win it – Hakimi’s mother on what son told her

Saida Mouh, the mother of PSG fullback, Achraf Hakimi, has revealed what her son told her before losing the African Men’s Player of the Year award to Ademola Lookman.

Apart from the Morocco’s captain, Lookman also defeated Serhou Guirassy, Ronwen Williams and Simon Adingra to the award at the gala event held in Marrakech.

Hakimi helped PSG to win the Ligue1 title last season, scoring five goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Hakimi, 26, has continued to impress for PSG this season, with three goals and seven assists in 20 games.

He has equally been impressive for Morocco and there was the optimism he could win the African Player of the Year award.

Mouh revealed that Hakimi told her that he was the winner, informing her decision to attend the award ceremony.

“My son asked me to come urgently to Marrakech to be present at the CAF Awards ceremony,” she told Al-Araby via Fennec Football.

“He spoke with such certainty that he was the winner. Maybe he had been informed before the event, but in the end, the trophy went to Ademola Lookman.”
