NPFL: How Shooting Stars halted Rangers’ 10-match unbeaten run — Ogunbote

Shooting Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has explained how his team ended Rangers’ 10-game unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The Oluyole Warriors defeated their old rivals 1-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Sunday.

Former Flying Eagles captain, Ikouwen Utin scored the winning goal in the first half.

“We knew we were coming to Enugu for a tough game,” Ogunbote said after the keenly contested encounter.

“Ordinarily, 10 games unbeaten is massive. Credit to the team, but you would expect fatigue and other factors to set in. I think we capitalised on that. Also, I believe we needed the points more than they did.”

Reflecting on the game, the 65-year-old said they were lucky to win after missing several chances in the first half.

“We had so many chances that we wasted. But against a team like Rangers, who are the defending champions, you have to bring everything—character and attitude. Thankfully, it paid off today,” he added.

Shooting Stars will host Kwara United in their next league this weekend.
