Ibadan stampede: My daughter is innocent – Ex-queen Naomi’s mother

The mother of the estranged former queen of the Ooni of Ife has called for intervention regarding her daughter’s involvement in the deaths of several children at a Christmas party in Ibadan.

Media Talk Africa reports that a court in Ibadan, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of Olori Prophetess Naomi Silelunola alongside others over the stampede that claimed the lives of 40 minors.

Funmilayo Ogunseyi stated that her daughter is innocent of any wrongdoing and was only trying to feed and care for the less privileged in the society.

In an emotional video shared on social media, Ogunseyi said her daughter, Naomi Silekunola, who is currently being held in a correctional facility, is unwell and fragile.

“Have mercy on me. Mothers, have mercy. Come to my rescue. Don’t let my life be destroyed,” Ogunseyi said.

“My child only came to Ibadan to help the needy; this was not her first time. We have travelled across the country helping children and the vulnerable.

“I sympathise with the families who lost their children; it was never our intention. Please, don’t let Naomi be imprisoned—she is innocent. She only came to show compassion.”

“She is fragile and sick. Naomi fainted at the station, and they still took her to court. I don’t know where else to turn to. They say her ordeal is an ‘order from above.”
