EPL: Arsenal close gap to Liverpool with 3-1 win at Brentford

Arsenal have moved within six points of Premier League leaders Liverpool, thanks to a 3-1 win over Brentford on New Year’s Day.

The Gunners were looking to overtake Nottingham Forest in second place and also stay close to Arne Slot’s men.

But they went behind at the GTech, after Bryan Mbeumo drilled in past David Raya at his near post.

Gabriel Jesus reacted quickest inside the box to head in the equaliser for Arsenal before the break.

In the second half, the visitors fired in two quick goals thanks to Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli to take the game away from Brentford.

Mikel Arteta’s men now have 39 points after 19 fixtures, while Liverpool have 45 points with one game in hand.
