Supercoppa: Why I benched Lookman against Inter Milan – Gasperini

Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini has explained Ademola Lookman’s substitute role in the club’s 2-0 Supercoppa semi-final loss to Inter Milan.

Lookman was surprisingly named among the substitutes by Gasperini for the encounter.

Charles De Ketelaere and Ederson were also not included in the starting line-up.

Lookman was only introduced after 56 minutes and couldn’t help La Dea win the game.

Gasperini defended his decision claiming he was not experimenting.

“I was not experimenting at all. We have many players, we had a long and tough run of games, the Supercoppa came at the right time for us to verify players who contributed, but played relatively little compared to others,” he told Sport Mediaset.

“We were up against Inter in the semi-final and it was the right time to try this.”
