Emir Sanusi speaks first time as court ruling favours him

For the first time since the Appeal Court’s judgment on Friday over the Kano monarch crisis, Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has spoken.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, appealed to the people of Kano State to remain peaceful in the aftermath of the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which held that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over the emirate dispute.

“As you all know, the monarchy succeeded in court today. The Court of Appeal upheld that the Federal High Court has no right to try this case. The court knew it did not have the jurisdiction, the person who filed the case knew that the court didn’t have it, and the judge that delivered the judgment knew the court didn’t have the jurisdiction, and those that appointed the judge knew about it, yet for eight solid years, this dispute has persistent in trying to raise confusion in Kano State, but Allah’s will, we are protected.

Therefore, I urge the people to remain patient and prayerful,” Emir said.

He made the remarks after the Friday prayers at his palace in Kano City.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Muhammad Mustapha, had earlier today ordered the Chief Judge of Kano to assign a fresh judge to review the case between the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, the Kano State Government, and the 16th Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, as well as the Kano State Assembly.

The court went further to state that the Federal High Court in Kano had no jurisdiction to try the monarchy case; it ought to be under the state High Court.
