Fouad Oki, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly was in the best interests of the state. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu had witnessed the Speaker’s alleged unacceptable behavior during attempts to resolve the ongoing crisis within the assembly.

According to a report from Media Talk Africa, Obasa was impeached by the assembly on Monday due to allegations of fraud, a decision Oki described as long overdue. The lawmakers later clarified that the impeachment was necessary to preserve the integrity and sanctity of both the House of Assembly and Lagos State.

In an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today shortly after the Speaker’s impeachment, Oki reiterated that President Tinubu had made efforts to address the crisis in the state legislature. He noted that the issue had been lingering prior to the president’s return.

Oki explained that the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) had called the president’s attention to the matter. As a father and leader, the president convened a meeting to address the concerns raised by party elders. Unfortunately, during this meeting, the president observed Obasa’s recalcitrance, which Oki believes ultimately led to the decision to impeach him.
