Bauchi govt swears in eight new commissioners in latest cabinet reshuffle

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, swore in eight new commissioners on Wednesday as part of his administration’s efforts to revitalize its operations. He emphasized that reshuffling the state cabinet periodically is a regular policy aimed at enhancing efficiency in policy development and execution.

Following the confirmation of the new commissioners by the State House of Assembly, the Governor announced the removal of five commissioners from the cabinet, accompanied by the appointment of eight new officials. He explained that two of the newly appointed commissioners would take over the roles of the former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Aminu Hammayo, who has now been appointed Secretary to the State Government, and the late Aliyu Ahmed Jalam, who served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs until his passing. Additionally, one of the new appointees will oversee the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.

Governor Mohammed expressed gratitude to the five commissioners who were removed, clarifying that their departure was not due to any deficiencies in their integrity or competence. Instead, he stated that the reshuffle was about aligning the right individuals with the appropriate roles, noting that some of the former commissioners may be considered for future appointments as special advisers.

The new commissioners and their respective portfolios are as follows: Alhaji Usman Usman Shehu for the Ministry of Information and Communication; Iliyasu Aliyu Gital for the Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi for the Ministry of Livestock Development; Hon. Isa Babayo Tilde for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Prof. Titus Saul Ketkukah for the Ministry of Works and Transport; Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin for the Ministry of Youth and Sports; Abdullahi Mohammed for the Ministry of Land and Survey; and Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam for the Ministry of Education.

Furthermore, the Governor redeployed several current commissioners: Amina Muhammed Katagum moved from the Ministry of Land and Survey to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning; Ibrahim Gambo Galadima transitioned from the Ministry of Works to Internal Security and Home Affairs; Mohammed Salis Gamawa shifted from the Ministry of Youth to Commerce, Industry, and Investment; and Engr. Binni Abdulkadir now leads the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation. This reshuffle follows the Governor’s earlier decision on January 7 to remove five commissioners as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery to the people of Bauchi State.
