Ondo LG Poll: Police restrict movement, exempt essential workers, warn miscreants

Ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Ondo State, the Nigerian Police on Thursday stated that vehicular movement will be restricted during the poll.

While revealing the development through the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, stated that the move was made as part of security measures for a hitch-free poll.

In a statement by the police image maker, she stated that there would be a restriction of vehicular and motorcycle movements between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm on Saturday.

According to Odunlami-Omisanya, miscreants planning to cause a crisis during the poll must steer clear as police operatives will deal decisively with anyone caught.

However, those on essential duties were exempted from the restriction, as well as those on emergency duties.

“Commuters who may have a reason to use the State as a passage are pre-informed of the restrictions to help adjust their plans ahead of the D-day.

“However, security personnel, medics, health workers, firefighters, and other essential service providers are allowed free movement to carry out their duties. Cases of emergency are also considered for movement.”
