EPL: Guardiola compares Haaland to Messi

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has compared working with Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi.

Guardiola is currently working with Haaland at the Etihad but worked with Messi when they were both at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012.

Following the news that Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half year contract with City, the Spaniard was asked about both footballers.

“In terms of numbers and scoring goals, he is similar to Leo [Messi], but they are different players,” Guardiola said.

“You cannot compare. Leo can play in different positions and can produce any things for his mates. It’s incomparable.”

Guardiola, however, admitted that Haaland can improve his performances and numbers as a player.

He added: “Of course, he can improve.

The contract won’t make him improve, it is his confidence and his desire which will improve him.”

Since his arrival in England, Haaland has scored 111 goals in 126 games.

The 24-year-old has also won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the Champions League, and a Super Cup.
