Katsina: Police foil bandit attack, neutralise seven suspects

The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a bandit attack on Ruwan Doruwa village in Dutsinma Local Government Area, neutralised seven suspected bandits, and recovered over 100 rustled animals during a joint security operation.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Saturday, at about 9:00 am.

He revealed that the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting an attack on the village by armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KTSCWC), and local vigilantes, mobilised a swift operation to confront the attackers.

“Upon arrival, the team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, neutralising seven of them, while others fled with varying degrees of injuries, abandoning the rustled animals,” Aliyu stated.

The operation led to the recovery of 61 cows, 44 sheep, two donkeys, a goat, and a dog.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised their gallantry and professionalism during the operation.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and called for continued public support through timely and useful information.
