Nigerian troops foil insurgent attack in Borno

Operation Hadin Kai troops deployed in Kawuri, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, successfully repelled an insurgent attack launched from the Sambisa Forest in the early hours of Tuesday.

Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert specialising in the Lake Chad Basin, disclosed this in a post on his X account on Tuesday.

Makama stated that intelligence sources informed him the battle, which lasted about two hours, ended with the insurgents retreating after suffering heavy casualties.

According to his report, reinforcement troops from the Nigerian military encountered an ambush on their way to support their colleagues but swiftly cleared the area.

He added that the commander of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, in a show of solidarity, visited the troops after the encounter, commended their bravery, and urged them to remain steadfast in their duties.

The commander assured the troops of the military’s continued support while emphasising the importance of sustaining morale.

“The battle is not over yet. You must all remain vigilant and prepared for any eventuality,” Makama quoted the commander as saying.
