Yusuf, Shettima celebrate Tijjaniyya’s role in fostering peace among Muslims

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect for its role in fostering unity within the Muslim community in Nigeria.

He made the remarks during the 2025 Maulud celebration in honor of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya sect, held at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson for the Kano State Governor, the Vice President, represented by Alhaji Babagana Fannami, praised the sect for its steadfast commitment to the authentic teachings of Islam over the past century.

As the special guest of honor, Shettima lauded the Tijjaniyya sect’s guiding principles, emphasizing its dedication to the lessons of Prophet Muhammad and its refusal to compromise on matters of Islamic jurisprudence. He also urged Muslims to adhere to the true teachings of Islam and to reject extremism.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who hosted the event, also commended the Tijjaniyya sect for promoting peace and harmonious relationships with other sects in Nigeria. “We appreciate all of you for traveling from far and near to attend this year’s Maulud for Sheikh Ibrahim Niass,” the governor said.

It is worth noting that earlier attempts by the police to halt the celebration, citing a purported security threat, were dismissed by the Kano State Government as baseless.

Emir Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, the national leader of the Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria, offered prayers for the unity of Muslims worldwide and called for greater tolerance and understanding between followers of different faiths.
