Dismissal of Officers: Ebuka Obi urges police to invite Sowore for questioning

Evangelist Ebuka Obi of the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has accused Omowole Sowore of cyber bullying.

Obi, who made the claims through his Media Adviser, Dan Aibangbe in a statement on Monday, urged the police to invite the rights activist for questioning.

He expressed deep concern over a publication linking him to the recent dismissal of 3 police officers by the Police Service Commission, describing the publication as unfortunate, malicious, scandalous and misleading.

He said the publication was nothing “but an attempt to mislead the public and a smear campaign against the revered and non-controversial person of Evangelist Ebuka Obi”.

The statement noted that the reasons for the officers’ earlier suspension and subsequent dismissal had earlier been explained by the Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Muyiwa Ogunjobi, which include gross misconduct, such as illegal duty and stealing.

Aibangbe explained that one of the affected officers, Peter Ejike was only assigned by the police to investigate a case of threat to life and cyber bullying brought against Ijele Speaks and argued that the fact was deliberately misrepresented in order to malign and tarnish the image of Evangelist Ebuka Obi.

Aibangbe described Sowore’s action as cyber-bullying and criminal libel, calling on the police to invite him over what he called “grossly misleading, injurious and defamatory story”.

Media Talk Africa recalls that Sowore on Monday reported to the police for questioning over another case of alleged defamation.

He earlier posted on his social media handles that he had rejected the bail conditions given to him by the police.
