Govt to address alleged plots to destabilise Benue State ahead 2027 election

The Benue State Government has received petitions from well-meaning people in the state regarding the prevalence of amorphous political pressure groups and civil societies that are aiming to cause political chaos ahead of the 2027 general elections for personal aggrandisement.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on National Programs, Civil Society, Mass Voter Education, and Strategic Interventions, Solomon Semaka.

He said the government has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice in due course.

“The Benue State Government has received multiple petitions from stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation into the proliferation of emergency shadow political pressure groups across the state. Their sole motive is to destabilise the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It is troubling and disheartening that many of the sponsors of these plots are public servants and elected leaders who should be prioritising the safety and stability of the citizens above their personal and selfish interests,” Semaka stated.

He further assured that the administration would collaborate with relevant security agencies to address the concerns raised by stakeholders.

He said that a Special Monitoring Committee has also been established to investigate the activities of these groups and their sponsors, with findings to be forwarded to the office of the National Security Adviser for further action.

Semaka commended those who have expressed patriotic concern over the issue, reaffirming the commitment of Governor Hyacinth Alia to the welfare and security of Benue’s citizens, as well as the uninterrupted implementation of his mandate, which has resonated deeply with the people.
