For fighting, bullying other students and truancy, 10 students of Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State have been handed punishments.

Five who were directly involved in the fighting and bullying other students were expelled.

Others who were remotely involved in the crimes received suspensions.

Three got one month and two got two weeks suspension.

The affected students have since vacated the University campus.

These were contained in a statement issued by the school’s acting Registrar, Lady Mary Dan-Abia.

The Registrar said the expulsion was not only a deterrent but a clear message to others that the school does not condone truancy and bullying.

Media Talk Africa learnt that the affected students had appeared before the school disciplinary panel on Monday, January 20, 2025 following two incidents of fighting and gang bullying, which occurred on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025, respectively.

Dan-Abia said that the decision came just days after the Chancellor had addressed the student body, urging them to steer clear of vices and misconduct.

She said that the Chancellor had emphasised that any student found guilty of drug use, drug possession, drug pedalling, or drug smuggling on campus would face automatic expulsion.

According to her, “The verdict serves as a deterrent to other students and a powerful reminder that respect for others and adherence to the rules of the university are non-negotiable.”

“For the expelled, the suspended, and every other student, ‘no student is above the school rules’”, the registrar stressed.
