FA Cup: Man Utd defender, Lisandro Martinez suffers major injury blow

Manchester United defender, Lisandro Martinez has suffered a major injury blow ahead of his side’s FA Cup fourth Round clash with Leicester City on Friday.

The Red Devils disclosed this in a statement via their website on Thursday.

Martinez had sustained the injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace.

“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way,” Man United’s statement partly read.

Martinez had to be taken off on a stretcher during the encounter against Palace at Old Trafford.

The Argentina international was substituted in the 82nd minute following lengthy treatment on the pitch.

He got injured after a seemingly innocuous challenge with Palace forward Ismaïla Sarr.

Media Talk Africa reports that the former Ajax star has suffered two prolonged layoffs since joining Man United in 2022 with metatarsal and knee injuries.
