Suspected ISSP jihadists attack supply convoy escorted by military, kill 40 in Mali

Suspected Islamic State in the Sahel Province, ISSP, jihadists have reportedly ambushed a supply convoy escorted by the military in Mali, killing at least 40 civilians.

The incident occurred along the Ansongo-Gao axis in northern Mali, where the jihadists also destroyed five vehicles.

This was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, in a post on his X handle.

Makama stated that security sources confirmed the attack took place near Kobe, a volatile area frequently targeted by armed groups linked to ISSP and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, JNIM.

According to the report, the convoy, carrying essential supplies, was reportedly traveling under military escort when it came under heavy gunfire.

The security expert revealed that the assailants used explosive devices and automatic weapons, setting five vehicles ablaze and killing dozens of civilians.

“The attackers struck suddenly, opening fire from strategic positions along the route. The military escort attempted to repel the assault, but the intensity of the ambush resulted in heavy casualties,” a source said.
