Trump’s Secretary of Education nominee McMahon gives update on student loans

US President Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, has addressed questions regarding the future of federal student loan programmes.
Speaking during her US Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday, McMahon assured lawmakers that Trump’s administration will improve significant initiatives, including Pell Grants for low-income college students and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness programme.

McMahon hinted that Trump’s administration aims to restructure the Department of Education.

She, however, said the key programmes in the department will continue to operate to support students nationwide.

“I am really all for the president’s mission, which is to return education to the states,” McMahon said.

She added that she believes the best education “is closest to the children” but emphasised that states and localities would still receive federal funding.
