Jos Katako Burnt Market: Humanitarian ministry supports victims

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has donated 900 bags of cement to the victims of the Katako burnt market in Jos North LGA of Plateau State.

DAILYPOST recalls that the Katako market in Jos North LGA of the State was devastated by a fire outbreak in November 2024,(being the 39th fire incident in its over 40 years of existence).

The donation was done through the Minister, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Market, on Saturday.

Nentawe who was represented by the Member representing Jos North-West in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Sunday Mark, said, “This gesture became necessary considering the plight of the victims of this unfortunate incident.

“These are people that have lost their means of livelihood, the little we can do for them now is to assist them to build their shops.

“So that is why we decided to come to their aid, we believe that this will assist them to restart their lives again”, he maintained.

He urged the leadership of the traders to ensure that the cement gets the victims.

Responding, Chairman of Timber Market B, Yusuf Umar, thanked the minister for the gesture.

“This will go a long way in assisting our members, we all know the price of cement in the market.

He called on government at all levels and we’ll meaning individuals to come to their aid.
