Imo Assembly urges security agencies to fish out killers of vigilante commander

The Imo State House of Assembly has urged security agencies to step up action to unmask those involved in the murder of the vigilante commander of Orsu Obodo in Oguta LGA, Chijioke Ebiri.

The lawmakers also asked the security agencies to investigate the assassination attempt made on the former commander of the vigilante group, Tochukwu Oshimri.

The House made the call while adopting the motion presented before it by the member representing Oguta Constituency, Gilbert Nwosu.

Moving the motion, Nwosu informed his colleagues that the killing of the vigilante commander has created apprehension in the area as many people have fled their homes following the incident.

He said that before the killing, that the slain vigilante commander has helped security agencies in curbing criminal activities in the area and that there is relative peace unlike two years ago when the people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed.

The Oguta representative added that there has been an increase in the rate of violent crimes in the locality in the recent times, which he said calls for swift and decisive measures to curtail its escalation.

The House, after deliberating on the motion, condemned the acts and resolved to call on the commissioner of police and other relevant agencies to carry out an investigation and apprehend the perpetrators to face the law.

The members also resolved to urge security agencies to beef up security in the area to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

In order to ensure full compliance, the House mandated the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to monitor the development and report back.
