Barely a week before the 2023 general election, five of Nigeria’s eighteen political parties announced that they would adopt the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The declarations were made at the grand finale of the PDP’s presidential rally, held on Saturday at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State. The parties joining the PDP are the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), African Democratic Congress (ADC), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Action Alliance (AA), and Action Peoples Party (APP). Yusuf Dantalle, the national chairman of the APM, spoke on behalf of the five parties to confirm their support.
The APM had previously replaced its own female presidential candidate, Chichi Ojei, with Atiku Abubakar on Friday, thereby aligning its campaign with the PDP. During the rally, Atiku addressed the crowd, promising Nigerians that his administration would not disappoint them. He pledged to deliver a united and peaceful country, a buoyant economy, quality education for children, and the devolution of powers and resources to states and local governments.
Atiku appealed directly to voters, urging them to support the PDP “from top to bottom” and warning against propaganda that might mislead them. He emphasized that the future of the nation rests in the hands of the PDP, noting that the party has never failed its supporters. “Today is the final day of our rally across the country,” he said, “and I want to thank Nigerians in all 36 states who have shown solidarity and support over the past six months.”
Reaffirming his campaign’s five‑point policy agenda, Atiku highlighted the opportunities awaiting Adamawa State if the PDP wins the presidency and continues to govern the state. “You know me—I live by my words and commitments,” he concluded, underscoring his dedication to delivering on his promises for both Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole.
