NPFL: Abia Warriors overcome Rangers in derby, Akwa, Rivers United share spoils

Ijeoma Desouza scored the winning goal as Abia Warriors defeated Rangers 1-0 in their Oriental derby at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday.

Desouza struck three minutes before the break to hand Imama Amapakabo’s side maximum points.

It was the forward’s sixth goal of the campaign for Abia Warriors.

In the South-South derby, Akwa United and Rivers United played out a 1-1 draw.

Ubong Friday, a former Akwa United player, opened the scoring for the visitors after eight minutes.

Akwa United equalised through Mare Abson seven minutes after the break.

Sunshine Stars and Kano Pillars also battled to a 1-1 draw in Ikenne.

Sunshine Stars took the lead through Chigozie Iwundu’s 59th-minute strike, while Eshimitu Gomino levelled for the visitors 14 minutes from time.
