Chelsea expect more from Nkunku – Maresca

Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca, has said that the club expects more from Christopher Nkunku.

Maresca also said that he was pleased with the Frenchman’s performance in Chelsea’s Premier League 4-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday.

Chelsea defeated Southampton, thanks to goals from Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella.

The win ended Chelsea’s three-game winless run and move them back into the Premier League top four.

Asked for his assessment of Nkunku’s display, Maresca told TNT Sports: “I’m happy with him, I know that he can give more. We expect more from him.

“At the same time we try to understand him in terms of he is not a nine. Many games he plays as a nine. He is not a winger and tonight he played as a winger.

“He is an attacking midfielder. The problem is that sometimes to find balance… we already used Cole Palmer there so we try to use him in different positions.”

Chelsea’s next game is against Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie on March 6.
