UK PM Keir Starmer arrives Washington ahead of Ukraine, defence talk

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Washington, United States.

Starmer arrived at the White House for talks with President Donald Trump on Ukraine and defence.

His meeting with Trump comes after US and Russian officials held talks in Turkey.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia said the talks “inspire hope,” adding that both countries could find common ground, including on the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President, Zelensky, is expected to arrive at the White House on Friday.

Trump said Zelenskyy would sign a “very big agreement” on minerals.

The BBC quoted a US official as saying Trump is “very pleased” with Starmer’s announcement this week that the UK will boost defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2027, up from 2.3 per cent.

However, the potential flashpoints for Starmer are numerous and considerable.
