Europa League: Rangers can’t afford to lose against Fenerbahce – Balogun

Leon Balogun says it is important for Rangers to defeat José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe in their Europa League Round of 16 contest.

Fenerbahçe will host the first leg at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul on Thursday.

Rangers have suffered a dip in form recently and sacked Belgian tactician Philippe Clement last week.

The Light Blues lost 2-1 at home to Motherwell last weekend.

The centre-back declared that they must strive to secure a positive result against Fenerbahçe.

“It’s a big opportunity for us on Thursday away. It might actually help that we play the first game away after what happened domestically and get supporters back on our side,” Balogun was quoted as saying by the Belfast Telegraph.

“But, again, we need to make at least two massive steps forward from today in order to get a result there.

“It probably helps that then we play European football again straight after, a week later. So it’s a massive chance, a massive opportunity.”
