Ogun Assembly to hold stakeholders’ forum on bill regulating scavengers activities

The Ogun State House of Assembly has said it will on Wednesday, 5th March, 2025, hold a stakeholders’ forum on a bill for a law to regulate the activities of scavengers and waste dealers in the State.

This according the House, would promote public order, environmental safety, peaceful co-existence and other related matters.

A statement by the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, Sakiru Adebakin, indicated that the stakeholders forum on the bill titled ‘HB. No.020/ OG/ 2025 – Scavengers and Waste Dealers Regulation law, 2025’, was meant to harness the inputs from relevant stakeholders to regulate the activities of scavengers across the State.

It would also regulate scavenging activities to specific hours – 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. while prohibiting operations on Sundays.

The statement added that the public hearing would take place at the State House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta starting from 10.00 am prompt; while all stakeholders are to be seated by 9.30 am.
