Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, officially launched a 100‑bed Mother and Child Hospital in Iperu‑Remo, Ogun State, on Saturday. The project is a joint effort between the Ogun State Government and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In his speech, the Vice President credited the development to the commitment of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and described the hospital as a testament to the federal government’s dedication to the health of women and children in Ogun and across the nation. He linked the initiative to SDG 3—good health and well‑being—and said the event symbolised the significant progress made toward achieving the SDGs and improving the welfare of all Nigerians.

Osinbajo emphasized that the centre is an investment for the future, directly contributing to SDG 3 and other cross‑cutting goals. The 100‑bed facility is equipped with state‑of‑the‑art amenities, including two operating theatres, recovery rooms, private and general wards, scanning rooms, consultation rooms, laboratories, an ultrasound machine and a vacuum extraction delivery set. He also announced that a completed 250‑bed mother‑and‑child hospital in Ikenne and a 24‑classroom block at Ikenne Community High School will soon be commissioned for the benefit of the local government and the state.

The Vice President highlighted additional federal initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life, such as expanding access to education, promoting sustainable agriculture, and enhancing infrastructure nationwide. He stressed that no young person should experience the frustration of unemployment, noting the establishment of a skill‑acquisition centre focused on human development.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, praised President Buhari for adopting the SDGs and enabling the state to benefit from the project, adding that the hospital will help reduce maternal and child mortality. He referenced the Ministry of Health’s “Ibidero” programme, which allows indigent women to give birth in such facilities free of charge after enrolling in the healthcare scheme.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs. Adejoke Adefulure, commended Governor Abiodun for his support and cooperation in the federal government’s collective effort to implement the SDGs. She reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising interventions with multiplier effects on multidimensional poverty, including basic health care, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship centres.
