Zamfara 2027 election: APC chieftain Shinkafi inaugurates group for governorship ambition

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State, Sani Abdulahi Wambam Shinkafi, on Wednesday gave an inkling of the power tussle that would ensue in the state at the forthcoming 2027 election by inaugurating a political group, Wambam Shinkafi Democratic Front, WSDF, at his residence in Gusau.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shinkafi, a three-time governorship candidate under APGA in Zamfara State, stated, “There will be no alliance with any group, no compromise. I will continue to stand on my own.”

Shinkafi vowed that he would not allow anyone to intimidate him in Zamfara politics, asserting that the state belongs to all. He also declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.

He reaffirmed that his political ambition to become governor remains alive, noting that his political association comprises a main committee, a women’s wing, and a youth wing.

Speaking further, Shinkafi pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would soon commence voter registration, urging his members to register in order to bring about change in the system.

“APC in Zamfara State is not for Senator Abdulaziz Yari or the Minister of State for Defence, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle. Senator Yarima and Yari governed Zamfara State for 16 years, and they are both from Zamfara West Senatorial District.

“Zamfara North governed the state for only four years—former Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi ruled for just one term. Zamfara West should allow other zones to complete their own tenures.

“I have never been afraid of any politician in Nigeria, and I never will be. I respect everyone who respects themselves in politics,” he added.

The former National Secretary of APGA also stated that all local government areas in the state have representatives in the movement.
